History
Within the Russian Empire
In 1868, in connection with the completion of the construction of the Moscow-Kursk railway , in the territory of the present Zolotukhinsky district the railway station Korennaya Pustyn was built. In 1881, the first Zemstvo schools were opened in the village. In the same year, the artist I. Ye. Repin visited the Root Hermitage, being impressed by what he saw later, wrote the painting “ The Procession of the Cross in Kursk Gubernia ” [3] .
During the Civil War
In December 1917, Soviet power was established on the territory of the settlement. PM Nikolayev was appointed chairman of the Council of Workers 'and Peasants' Deputies, later a delegate to the 6th Extraordinary Congress of Councils of the RSFSR from the Kursk province [4] . It was as a result of his petition to the Chairman of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee Ya. M. Sverdlov [4] by a decision of the Presidium of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee of the RSFSR of December 19, 1918 to the settlement Rootnaya was given the new name - Svoboda [4] [5] . In 1919, during the march on Moscow , at the time of the entry of units of the Council for Social Work for People and Youth Services in the settlement, the monks of the Root Hermitage rang all bells. During the offensive of the Red Army in September-October of the same year, heavy fighting took place in the area of Freedom.
In the USSR
In 1928, the Svoboda District was formed, the administrative center of which was Liberty. On November 10, 1930, the Svobody District was abolished, and Svoboda became part of the Zolotukhinsky District. In 1934, the opening of the mechanical plant of the Ministry of Health of the USSR . In January 1935, the Svobody District was re-formed, the administrative center of which was the settlement. In 1939, the radio center was put into operation.
In November 1941, the Wehrmacht occupied Freedom. In February 1943 she was liberated by the Red Army . In the hospital of the locality is located hospital. In April 1943, the command center (headquarters) of the Central Front, located under the command of K. K. Rokossovsky [6] , coordinated the military actions of the Soviet troops on the Kursk Bulge , was located on the territory of the settlement.
In 1948, an electromechanical plant was commissioned, in 1963 - a motor transportation company , in 1970 - a bakery. By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR of February 1, 1963, the Svobodinsky District was once again abolished, and its administrative center became part of the Zolotukhinsky District.

- Kursk Root Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin of the Hermitage , founded in 1597 . In 2001, a monument to St. Seraphim of Sarov was erected on the territory of the monastery.
- Historical memorial museum "KP Central Front", the grand opening of which was held on May 9, 1975 [6] .
- In 2003, in front of the monastery, a monument was erected “The Acquisition of the Sign of the Sign by Hunters” [9] , designed by sculptor V.M. Klykov .
