Christianity in Mexico is the most common religion in the country.
According to the in 2010 107.78 million Christians resided in Mexico, which made up 95% of the country's population [1] [2] . The Encyclopedia of “Religions of the World” by J. G. Melton estimates the share of Christians in 2010 at 95.7% (105.58 million) [3] .
The largest direction of Christianity in the country is Catholicism . In 2000, there were 68.6 thousand Christian churches and places of worship in Mexico belonging to 365 different Christian denominations [4] .
In addition to Mexicans , Americans , Spaniards , Russians , Romanians , Italians , Basques , Latinos, and others living in the country profess Christianity. Mexican Mayans , Tsetals , Totonaks , Tzotsili , Mayos , Otomis , Choli , Zapotec , Masatecs , Masaouas , Mishtecs are fully converted to Christianity. , chontali , choli , toholabali , taraumara , amusgo , tricas , chathins , juice , yaks and many other peoples. Moreover, in Mexico there are peoples who have only partially converted to Christianity; more than half of the pururecha, huichi and tepehua profess local traditional beliefs.
As of 2015, only one Mexican church ( Methodist ) is a member of the World Council of Churches [5] . Conservative evangelical Christians work together in the Gospel Brotherhood of Mexico, associated with the World Gospel Alliance .
