Ali Bey Evrenosoglu

Ali Bey Evrenos-oglu is an Ottoman military and statesman of the 15th century . One of the seven sons of a major Ottoman commander, Haji Ghazi Evrenos Bey .

Biography

In the 1430s, Ali-Bey Evrenos-oglu was appointed Sanjakbey Sanjak Albania. In 1430, the sanjakbey Skopje Ishaq bey captured the Principality of , owned by Koja Zakharia , and annexed it to the sanjak Albania under the control of Ali Bey.

In 1432, at the beginning of the anti-Ottoman uprising in Albania (1432–1436), Sultan Murad II sent a 10,000-strong army under the command of Sanjakbey Ali-bey to suppress the uprising. Ottoman Turks marched along Via Egnatia and entered Central Albania, where they were ambushed and defeated by the troops of George Arianiti . In the years 1435-1436, together with Turahan Bey, Ali Bey crushed the Albanian uprising and restored dominance in the region .

In 1438, Ali-Bey Evrenos-oglu commanded the Ottoman army, at the head of which he made a devastating campaign against Wallachia and Transylvania.

In 1440, he participated in an unsuccessful siege by the Ottoman army of Belgrade . During the siege, he built a wall around the city for throwing stones. According to the chronicles of Constantine from Ostrovitsa , the sultan promised the title of Bey and a great reward to the one of the soldiers who first hoisted the Ottoman flag on the walls of Belgrade . Although Eurenos oglu already had the title of Bey, he personally led the assault on the walls of the Belgrade Castle, hoping, if successful, to further increase his reputation.

In 1451, after the death of the Ottoman Sultan Murad II, Ali-Bey, on the orders of the new Sultan Mehmed II, Fatiha was forced to kill his young half-brother Ahmed Chelyabi.

Ali Bey Evrenos-oglu was buried in the courtyard of the Gazi Evrenos Mosque in Larissa in Greece.
