Pseudomyrmex ejectus (lat.) Is a species of wood ants of the genus Pseudomyrmex from the subfamily Pseudomyrmecinae ( Formicidae ). New World [1] .

Distribution

South and North America : USA , Mexico , Guatemala , Costa Rica , Bolivia [1] [2] [3] .

Description

Small-sized ants of brown color (antennae and stalk lighter). The scapus is short. They have relatively large eyes and a strong sting. The body is narrow, the legs are short. The stalk between the breast and the abdomen consists of two nodular segments ( petiol and postpetiol). They live in the cavities of living trees and shrubs of various plants with which they are in mutually beneficial relations [1] [4] .

Systematics

The species was first described in 1858 by the British entomologist Frederick Smith (1805-1879), the valid status was confirmed in the 1980-1990s during the audit by the American entomologist Phil Ward ( Ward, PS ). Belongs to the pallidus species group [1] [5] .
