History
The exact date of the foundation of the village is unknown. The first mention of the village of Kosherokovo ( Kabard. Cherk. Kueshrokuyu ) refers to 1744 , where with other Kabardian villages is described in the document - "Description of the Big and Small Kabarda," compiled by the surveyor Chikagov.
In 1865, during the Land Reform of Kabarda and the program to enlarge the Kabardian villages, two neighboring villages were joined to the village of Kosherokovo.
In 1920, with the final establishment of Soviet power in Kabarda, by decision of the Revolutionary Committee of the Nalchik District, the village of Kosherokovo was renamed like all other Kabardian villages, due to the presence of princely and noble families in their names. As a result, the village got its new name Kenzhe, after the eponymous river flowing through the village. The name of the Kenzhe River itself is supposedly derived from the Kabardian “ chenzh ”, which means “shallow”. According to other sources, the name of the river possibly dates back to the word “ kanzhe ”, which means “ magpie ” in Kabardian.
Until 1956, Kenzhe was part of the Nalchik district of the KBASSR . After the abolition of the district, the village was transferred to the jurisdiction of the Leninsky intracity district of the Nalchik city council.
In 1970, Kenzhe, as well as other settlements of the Nalchik City Council, was given the status of a village. In 1995, the village was returned the status of the village.
In 2005, after the dissolution of the Nalchik city administration, the village was included in the city district of Nalchik .
