A small vase parrot [1] , or a black parrot [2] ( lat. Coracopsis nigra ) is a bird of the parrot family.

Content
AppearanceBody length 36 cm; weight 315 g. The plumage is brownish-black, with a gray tint on the wings and tail.
DistributionIt lives in Madagascar , Comoros and Seychelles .
LifestyleInhabited by dense impenetrable forests and mangrove swamps, up to an altitude of 2000 m above sea level. Keep in small flocks. Very careful; people are not allowed close. They feed on seeds, berries and fruits. Eat large quantities of rice , corn and cassava .
ReproductionThe mating season falls on the rainy season from December to March or April. Nest in hollows of old trees. In clutch 2-3 eggs .
ClassificationThe view includes 3 subspecies:
- Coracopsis nigra libs Bangs, 1927 - inhabits the west and south of Madagascar.
- Coracopsis nigra nigra (Linnaeus, 1758) - inhabits the east of Madagascar.
- Coracopsis nigra sibilans Milne-Edwards & Oustalet, 1885 - lives on the islands of Grand Comor and Anjouan ( Comoros ).
Depending on the classification, the number of subspecies may vary, and the species may include up to 4 subspecies, including: Coracopsis nigra barklyi, living in the Seychelles. Often this subspecies is considered as an independent species of Coracopsis barklyi [3] [4] .
