“Shah Ismail” ( azerb. Şah İsmayıl ) is an Azerbaijani love dastan . Collected up to 10 options. According to some researchers ( Hamid Arasly , for example), the dastan is associated with the name of Shah Ismail I , according to others (for example, Mamedguseyn Tahmasib ) - with the name of Shah Ismail II [1] .
The summary of the dastan is as follows: Finding with difficulty his son Ismail Shah hides him in a special place. During the hunt, Shah Ismail meets a girl named Gyulzar and falls in love with her. After a long adventure, he takes Gulzar to the possession of his father. The Shah, desiring to take possession of Gyulzar, blinds his son Ismail. However, Ismail recovers, takes revenge on his father, comes to power and reunites with his beloved Gyulzar [1] .
Dastan is rich in heroic motives. From this point of view, the image of Arab Zengi attracts attention. Her face expresses female loyalty, friendship and love. The dastan reflects the idea of a just ruler. Based on the dashan “Shah Ismail,” Azerbaijani composer Muslim Magomayev wrote the opera of the same name [1] .
