Biography

The second son of the Voivode of the Warrior , vassal and military leader of the Serbian kings, Stefan Uros III Decan (1322–1331) and Stefan Uros IV Dushan (1331–1355).

Altoman was first mentioned in historical sources in 1335 as Altoman, the son of a Warrior. Probably, he and his brothers accompanied Father Warrior during the military campaign of the king of Serbia Stefan Dusan against Byzantium in 1334, during which Ohrid , Skeleton , Strumica and Thessaloniki were besieged. Altoman probably participated in military campaigns of the Serbian army in Albania in 1342 and 1343 .

At the beginning of the 1340s, the Duke Warrior probably allocated his sons Altoman and Wislav separate areas for management. Altoman became a neighbor of the rich republic of Dubrovnik, he established good relations with the Dubrovnik merchants who paid him for safe passage through his possessions.

After the death of his father, the Warrior in the autumn of 1347, his son Altoman inherited his possession as the eldest of two sons.

In 1348, Altoman with his detachment participated in the military campaign of King Stephen Dusan in his successful military campaign in Epirus and Thessaly . In the next 1349, hostilities between the ban of Bosnia, Stephen II Kotromanic and the Serbian kingdom, over the western part of Huma , resumed. Ban of Bosnia built a fortress on the mouth of the Neretva River and began to make frequent invasions of the border Serbian possessions. The Bosnian raids primarily affected the lands of Altoman Voinovich. The city of Gacko , the capital of Voinovichi, was taken and burned several times. In October 1350, the king of Serbia, Stefan Dusan, with a large army invaded Bosnia. Ban, betrayed by his close associates, bribed by Stephen, fled to the Bosnian mountains. Stefan Dusan besieged Bobovac , the capital of Bosnia. Soon, Stephen Dushan with the main forces retreated south and moved against Byzantium. Stefan II Kotromanich took advantage of this and again took control of the western regions of Huma.

In 1359, the great zhupan Altoman Voinovich died. His possessions were inherited by the younger brother Voislav Voinovich (d. 1363 ).

Family

Since 1347 he was married to Ratislava Mladenovic, daughter of the prefect Mladen and sister of the ruler Ohrid Branko Mladenovic. They had the only son of Nikola Altomanovich Voinovich .
