Innopolis University ( Tat. "Innopolis Universities" autonomy commerce bulmagan Yugars belem birү yashmasy ) is a Russian autonomous non-profit organization of higher education in the city of Innopolis ( Verkhneuslonsky district , Republic of Tatarstan ). Registered on December 10, 2012 . The founders are the Russian Federation represented by the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Tatarstan represented by the Ministry of Informatization and Communications of the Republic of Tatarstan. Specializes in education in the field of information technology . Initially, the university operated in the city of Kazan ; since September 2015, the university campus in the city of Innopolis was opened. Content
History
The creation of Innopolis University was announced in February 2012, when negotiations were held with Carnegie Mellon University on the creation in Tatarstan of an IT training center, designed for an annual graduation volume of about 1 thousand specialists. It was assumed that the university will be created on the basis of the Higher School of Information Technologies and Information Systems of Kazan University , which will gain independence [1] . However, this plan was not realized and a new institution was created. On September 4, 2012, the Government of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Carnegie Mellon University iCarnegie Global Learning training unit signed a memorandum of understanding, according to which iCarnegie agreed to develop a curriculum that includes a world-class university, a school system for general education, as well as a number of Opportunities for training and leadership training [2] . December 21, 2012 - the signing of a memorandum of understanding [3] between iCarnegie Learning University and Innopolis University was announced, within which Carnegie Mellon specialists were involved in the development of Innopolis University infrastructure and the creation of training programs.
In April 2013, students were accepted at the university - acceptance of applications for employee vacancies, which involves passing a one-year training at Carnegie Mellon University under the master's program "Master of Information Technologies - Management of Software Development". It was supposed to select 15 candidates. In total, more than 700 applications were received, but not all applicants were able to pass the TOEFL , as a result of which only 14 people were selected [4] .
In November 2013, Innopolis University was included in the list of institutions selected during the competition for the creation of breakthrough research centers in the field of information technology [5] .
In January 2014, according to the order of the Government of the Russian Federation dated December 30, 2013 N 2602-r, within the framework of the action plan (“road map”) “Development of the information technology industry”, Innopolis University became a pilot platform for testing modern educational programs in the field of information technology and providing training for specialists by involving them in research and development [6] .
In January 2014, Innopolis University received the status of the operator of the Russian stage of the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) . In June, the Russian stage of the robotics Olympiad was held in Kazan (at the base of the Tennis Academy ) [7] . In June 2015, the Russian stage of the Olympiad was held in Innopolis. It also included for the first time the all-Russian competition in robotics for preschool children "IkaRenok".
In July 2014, the university received a license to carry out educational activities in higher education programs. In August 2014, the university began the independent implementation of the undergraduate and graduate study programs.
By the opening of the city in June 2015, Innopolis University concluded agreements on training specialists and conducting research and development work for the Ministry of Defense , NVision Group companies, Mail.Ru Group and the Radio Engineering and Information Systems concern.
During 2015, according to the results of the selections from May to July, more than 350 students from 45 regions of Russia and 10 foreign countries were accepted [8]
In September 2015, students began studying at the university in Innopolis.
In 2016, the university accepted 313 new students from 46 subjects of the Russian Federation and 10 foreign countries; in 2017 - 255 people from 42 constituent entities of the Russian Federation and 29 foreign countries; in 2018—254 people from 38 regions of the Russian Federation and 33 foreign states.
In 2018/2019, 639 students study at the university [9] .
On May 10, 2017, the university announced the winning [10] of a grant competition for the creation and development of the Center of Competencies for end-to-end technology “Components of Robotics and Mechatronics”. The consortium of the center included 16 universities of the Russian Federation, 5 applied academic institutes, 7 foreign partners from France, China, Denmark, Sweden, Germany and Norway, and 16 industrial partners. Among them are MIPT , ITMO , HSE , FEFU , IPPI RAS , IMASH RAS , Sberbank , Gazprom , Aeroflot , IMT Atlantique (France) and Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology (China). The center is engaged in the development of industrial and collaborative robotics, the creation of new robotic solutions for medicine and rehabilitation, home, agriculture, the development of humanoid and multi-legged walking robots, unmanned aerial and ground vehicles.
Training Programs
The university is preparing bachelors (until 2016 students were enrolled for 3-4 courses) in the direction of “Computer Science and Computer Engineering”; Masters in the fields of "Big Data", "Management of software development", "Development of secure systems and networks" and "Robotics".
In the third year of study, undergraduate students can choose one of three areas of specialization: "Software Development", "Big Data", "Robotics".
There are also non-core areas: "Game Development", "Information Security Systems", "Biotechnology", "Financial Technologists (Blockchain)" and "Cyberphysical Systems".
Learning Features
Education at the university is paid. In 2018-2019, the cost of 1 year of study under the bachelor's program is 1,200,000 rubles, under the master's program - 1,400,000 rubles. Students have the opportunity to receive a grant that covers 100% of the cost of tuition [11] . In 2017, the university issued 255 grants [12] ; in 2018–254 [13] . Upon receiving a grant, the student undertakes to successfully complete the program with a diploma and choose one of the professional paths: employment in a partner company of the university; conducting research at the university; opening your own business in the field of information technology.
Teaching is conducted in English (mainly) and Russian.

The faculty of Innopolis University in 2018 - 50 teachers (2017 - 36; 2016 - 32; 2015 - 26) [15] , including leading scientists and practitioners.
Number of students
In 2013 - 14 students (under the master's program), in 2014 - 50 students (26 - under the bachelor's program, 24 - under the master's program), in 2015 - 322 students (236 - under the bachelor's program, 86 - under the master's program ) It should be noted that student enrollment plans are changing. So, according to the initial plans, in 2014, 92 students should have been recruited (40 - under the undergraduate program, 52 - under the master's program).
However, a massive student enrollment was launched in 2015. Initially, it was assumed that from September 2015, 330 students will begin their studies in undergraduate programs, and 105 students in undergraduate programs. As a result of admission to the 1st baccalaureate course, 72 people were admitted, 185 students to the third bachelor's course, 95 students to the master's program. In 2016, the university admissions committee accepted 313 new students [16] ; in 2017–255 [17] ; 2018–254 [18] .
As of September 1, 2018, the number of university students was 639 people [19]

University Campus
The university campus with an area of 31.1 thousand m² and four dormitories for 1200 people with an area of 35.3 thousand m² were built at the expense of the federal budget under the State Program “Economic Development and Innovative Economy” under the auspices of the Ministry of Communications . In 2013, RUB 4.7 billion was allocated for this (by adding to the authorized capital of Innopolis). [20] [21]
The university campus consists of a teaching and laboratory building, residential and sports complexes.
The development of design and estimate documentation for the construction of the first phase of the university’s academic laboratory building, the university’s residential and sports complex was carried out by Kazan Giproniiaviaprom CJSC.
In December 2013, JSC Kamgesenergostroy won the tender for the construction of the first phase of the educational and laboratory building. The amount of the contract amounted to 2.07 billion rubles. Also, Kamgesenergostroy OJSC became the only bidder for the construction of residential and sports complexes. The amount of the contract amounted to 1.8 billion rubles.
University Funding
The university’s operations are funded by sponsors and revenue from its own activities. In 2013, the sponsors included MegaFon OJSC, ICE-KPO VS OJSC , Infomat LLC, Investneftekhim LLC, Corporate Information Routine LLC (KIR) and private individuals. 437.9 million rubles were raised. In 2014, the sponsors included AICEL-KPO VS OJSC, Acronis LLC, DNA Technology LLC, Megafon OJSC, MTS OJSC, Parallels Research LLC, OJSC Svyazinvestneftekhim, LLC Thesis ”and private individuals. It was assumed that in 2014 donations and partnership contributions will amount to at least 788.2 million rubles, however, partnership contributions and donations amounted to only 211.8 million rubles. As of July 20, 2015, the university managed to attract 845 million rubles. private sponsorship donations.
