The total length reaches 1.9-5.6 cm. Sexual dimorphism is observed - females are larger than males. It has a pointed head, a wide body, from which the shape of her body looks pear-shaped. The color from above is green with dark spots located in two, sometimes in four longitudinal rows. The belly is grayish-yellow, the throat is dark, often black.
He loves open, grassy places, if there are at least small puddles there. He especially loves heavily overgrown ponds, in the coastal parts of which, having plunged into the water so that only his head is visible, males lie and scream. It occurs at an altitude of 900 to 2900 meters above sea level. Their voices are heard from the afternoon until late at night. Often found on the ground, as well as on stunted plants, small shrubs. In the windless corners, she basks in the sun, sitting on the leaves of agave and corn.
In the midst of breeding, its eggs are found in every puddle and even in the ruts filled with rainwater there are few roads. The masonry contains more than 25 eggs that surround the stems of plants. Already on the 5th day after laying eggs, larvae appear.
Endemic of Mexico. The species is common in the Western Sierra Madra and the Transverse Volcanic Sierra .
