Mitchell Ian Nichols ( born Mitchell Ian "Mitch" Nichols ; May 1, 1989 , Southport , Australia ) is an Australian footballer attacking the midfielder of the New Zealand club Wellington Phoenix and the Australian national team .

Club career

Mitch began his career at the Palm Beach regional Australian league club. Nichols scored 9 goals in 8 games and was invited to the Brisbane Roar . On November 23, 2008, in the match against Perth Glory , he scored his first goal in the A-League [3] . As part of Brisbane, Mitch won the championship twice. In the team, he spent six seasons, having played more than 100 matches.

In 2013, Nichols joined Melbourne Victory as a free agent. On October 12, in a match against Melbourne City , he made his debut for a new team [4] . On November 23, in a duel against Adelaide United , Mitch scored his first goal for Victory [5] .

In early 2014, Nichols moved to the Japanese Cereso Osaka . The transfer amount amounted to 225 thousand euros. On March 15, in a match against Shimizu S-Pals , Mitch made his debut in the J-League [6] . Nichols never entered the field from the first minutes and in the summer went home to Perth Glory to receive gaming practice on loan. On October 12, in a duel against Wellington Phoenix , Mitch made his debut for a new club [7] .

In the summer of 2015, Nichols signed a contract with Western Sydney Wanderers . On October 8, in a match against Brisbane Roar, he made his debut for a new team [8] . In the same match, Mitch scored his first goal for Western Sydney Wanderers . In the summer of 2017, Nichols returned to Perth Glory. On November 24, in a duel against Melbourne City, Mitch scored his first goal for the team [9] .

International Career

In 2008, as part of the Australian youth team, Nichols played at the Asian Youth Cup in Saudi Arabia and won it. In 2009, he took part in the youth world championship in Egypt . At the tournament, Mitch played in matches against the teams of Costa Rica [10] and the Czech Republic [11] .

On March 5, 2009, Nichols made his Australian debut in the Asian Cup qualifier against Kuwait . [12]
