The municipal district got its name from the eponymous historical district . The district was named after the village of Piskaryovka, which, in turn, was named after the merchant Piskaryov, who owned vast land plots here. The same name is given to the railway station of the Oktyabrskaya Railway ( Priozerskoye , Ladoga and Irinovsky directions).

The district municipal council publishes the Piskaryovka newspaper.
