Biography
Born in the city of Neuwied ( Duchy of Nassau ). The second child and the eldest son of Johann Karl Augustus zu Vida (1779–1836), the 3rd Prince Vid (1809–1836), and his wife, Princess Sophia Augusta Solms-Braunfelskaya (1796–1855), daughter of Wilhelm, Prince Solms-Braunfelsky (1759-1837) and Countess Augusta Francis Salm-Grumbach (1771-1810).
In April 1836, after the death of his father, Herman inherited the title of Prince Weed and became the head of the House of Look. In 1842, Prince German zu Weed, together with 20 other representatives of the German nobility, founded the Society for the Protection of German Immigrants in Texas ("Adelsverein, Society for the Protection of German Immigrants in Texas").
The New Look settlement in Texas, a few miles north of New Braunfels on the Guadalupe River in Comal County, was created after the epidemic of 1846 , but more than 300 German settlers died. Also in Texas , the village of Kind was created in Lavac County.
Hermann Weed gained significance in society after betrothal with his sister Wilhelm, Duke of Nassau . The prince took an active part in public events until in 1847 it became known that due to debts and disagreements he should take a more business-like approach in order to maintain a reputation and support the local nobility.
Since 1847, August von Biber , director of business for Prince Weed, began to actively participate in the affairs of society in the protection of German immigrants. When in 1851, after Prince Karl of Leningen, Johann Weed was elected president, August von Bibre took over the entire management of the enterprise. Bibra advocated paying off corporate debts and reviving the emigration program for more than ten years.
