Geography
Located at the mouth of the Kiran River, on the left bank of the Chikoy River, 30 km northeast of the city of Kyakhta .
History
The beginning of the village is considered the construction in 1862 by Ya. A. Nemchinov at the mouth of the Kiran River, where already in 1825 there were dachas of Kyakhta merchants, the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord, to which Russian peasants and local Buryats began to settle down [2] . The grown village was called Savior Transfiguration . Yakov Andreevich Nemchinov also built a marina on Chikoye.
In the autumn of 1868 a parish school was opened in the village, from which the present secondary school originates. Classes were held in the house of the priest Innokenty Shastin. In the first year, 10 children studied at the school. The school opened and in the first year was kept at the expense of the priest [3] . In the 1870s, the mill began to operate.
In 1930, the Voroshilov Agricultural Farm was organized, later a collective farm . In the village of Ust-Kiran appear pioneer camp, izba-reading room, people's house, dispensary. In 1937, the first tractor came. In 1939, the Ust-Kiransky Village Council was established. In November 1939, a children's sanatorium opened in the village [4] .
In May 1940, an orphanage with a special regime was transferred from the Zaigraevsky district to Ust-Kiran. On October 1, 1941, 34 boys were brought up in an orphanage [5] .
In 1954, the Voroshilov kolkhoz merged with the farms of the neighboring villages of Kiran, Burduny, Murochi, Khilgantuy and became known as the Lenin kolkhoz. In 1969, Ust-Kiranskaya eight-year school becomes a secondary general education.

Religion
The Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord was consecrated in 1862, closed in the 1930s, and then dismantled. In 2006 it was installed near the cemetery, 500 meters south-west of the historic site.
Heritage sites
- The Vodyanaya burial ground is 3 km west of the village of Ust-Kiran, in the Vadyanaya Pad, at the foot of the western slope of the hill. Monument of archeology.
