Content
Early life
Wilhelm Friedrich was born in Neuwied Castle, Kingdom of Prussia. The eldest son of William zu Weed (1845-1907), 5th Prince Weed (1864-1907; the son of German zu Weed and Princess Maria Nassauska), and his wife Maria the Netherlands (1841-1910; daughter of Prince Frederick the Netherlands and Princess Louise of Prussia) . On the paternal side, he was a descendant of the King of Great Britain, George II of Hanover . His great-grandfathers were King of Holland Willem I and King of Prussia Frederick William III . Nephew of Queen Elizabeth of Romania .
Marriage and children
On October 29, 1898, in Stuttgart, he married Princess Pauline of Württemberg (December 19, 1877 - May 7, 1965), the daughter of King Württemberg William II and his first wife, Maria Waldeck of Pirmont , daughter of George Victor, Prince of Waldeck of Pirmont . The couple had two children:
- Herman zu Vid (August 18, 1899 - November 5, 1941), Crown Prince Vid, was married to Countess Maria Antonia Stolberg-Wernigerode
- Prince Dietrich zu Weed (October 30, 1901 - June 8, 1976), married to Countess Antoinette Julia von Grote
After the wedding, the couple first settled in Potsdam , where Frederick commanded the regiment, and in 1902 they moved to Berlin . Since 1907, they lived in their residence Neuwied .
Prince Kind
In October 1907, after the death of his father, Wilhelm Friedrich, as the eldest of his sons, inherited the title of Prince Weed.
In 1918, after the revolution in Germany and the overthrow of the monarchy, all noble titles and posts were abolished. He became the titular prince until his death in 1945 . The title was inherited by his 14-year-old grandson Friedrich Wilhelm (1931-2000), so his eldest son German died from wounds received during the battles during the Second World War in Rzeszow ( Poland ).
During World War I, he served as a colonel in an army group under the command of Alexander von Linsingen in southern Poland. On October 5, 1916, the father-in-law, King of Württemberg Wilhelm II, awarded him the Grand Cross of the Order of the Württemberg Crown .
