Perennial water - loving herbs with fleshy roots. Leaves twice or thrice palmate, dissected, dentate lobes. Wrapper may be present, no bracts, numerous bracts.

Flowers in convex complex umbrellas, usually white, sometimes greenish or pinkish. The calyx is noticeable, with sharp leaf-shaped teeth. The stigma of the pestle is capitate, the column is long and thin.

Fruits are spherical to broad-ovoid, semi-fruit five-ribbed, single tubules of oil in the hollows.

Toxicity

In all parts of plants, especially in large quantities - in the roots, contains strong poison cycutoxin , which has a neurotoxic effect that causes rhabdomyolysis . The action of the poison is close to strychnine [3] .

Range

Widely distributed in the temperate zone of the Northern Hemisphere.
