Biography
Joel was born in Brooklyn , in a Puerto Rican family. Ortiz won EA Sports Battle in 2004, and EA Sports used his “Mean Business” track as the soundtrack for NBA Live 2005. In the same year, Jermain Dupree offered him a So So Def Label contract. The deal, in the end, did not take place, which served as the beginning of a beef between Ortiz and Dupree. After that, he collaborated with KRS-One and Kool G. Rap. In 2006, Joel was invited to record Frankie Cutlass's album "Puerto Rico 2006 Featuring Lumidee, Voltio & Joell Ortiz" [1] . On August 11, 2009, Ortiz, as part of Slaughterhouse , released the album Slaughterhouse , February 8, 2011 - Slaughterhouse EP . The album " Welcome to: Our House " was presented on August 28, 2012.
Career
The Brick: Bodega Chronicles
On April 24, 2007, Ortiz introduced The Brick: Bodega Chronicles . It was released by Koch Records, even though Joel had already signed up for Aftermath Entertainment . The album was produced by Showbiz, The Alchemist , Domingo , Ho Chi, Lil 'Fame from MOP, Novel, Moss and many others. The guests were Big Daddy Kane , Styles P , Big Noyd, MOP, Akon , Immortal Technique , Grafh, Ras Kass, Stimuli and Novel.
Aftermath Care
On April 15, 2008, Ortiz officially left Aftermath Records. In 2009, Joel released a number of freestyle and remixes, among them was the track "Stressful", which is a remix of Drake 's song "Successful" [2] . Ortiz's “Hip-Hop” remix (along with Jadakiss and Saigon) sounded on a fictitious radio station in the GTA IV video game.
New Label
On November 5, 2010, Joel left E1 Entertainment. In August 2010, he was negotiating a contract with Steve Rifkind Records SRC Records. However, the deal was never concluded. On October 31, 2010, Ortiz at Conspiracy Worldwide Radio discussed his relationship with Eminem and the labels who wanted to sign him after the release of Free Agent . In 2011, Joel becomes an independent artist, never having achieved a contract with SRC Records. During a tour in 2012, Slaughterhouse members told Bootleg Kev's radio about the new album and work with Eminem. It also turned out that Ortiz subscribed to Shady Records [3] .
Criticism
After the release of “Big Pun Back” in 2011, Ortiz was criticized by the widow of rapper Liza Rios, former members of Terror Squad and Tony Sunshine, who claimed that the song discredited Big Pun's memory [4] .
