The script for the film was written by Edmund Day and Tom Forman, based on a play in which cousin Roscoe Arbuckle Michael Arbuckle and Julia Dean shone on the Broadway stage in 1907. It was Michael who came up with the famous phrase that is used in the advertising of the film "Nobody Loves Fat Men."
