Torpedo boats of the MAS 501 type are a type of torpedo boats of the Royal Italian Navy , built in 1936-1937. They were the development of torpedo boats of the type MAS 424. Sometimes they are assigned to the 1st series of torpedo boats of the “500th” class.

A total of 25 boats were built, 4 of which (MAS 506, 508, 511 and 524) were sold to Sweden in 1940.
The boats had a wooden hull, with the exception of the last ship of the series (MAS 525), the hull of which was metal. Torpedo boats of this type participated in hostilities in the Mediterranean during World War II . Boats MAS 522 and 525 were captured by the Germans after the surrender of Italy, renamed S-511 and 508.
