Born on June 13, 1947 in the Pudzhny village of Katslau (Kozlov) near the city of Bautzen. He studied at the high schools in Ralbitz and Panschwitz-Kukau . He worked as an electrician at a power station in Lübbenau. Since 1969 he was a member of the board of the Domowina-Verlag publishing house. From 1989 to 1990, he was a member of the political movement “ Luzhitsky National Assembly ”, which advocated the restructuring and democratization of the Luditsky society.
In 2000, he was elected chairman of the Domovina cultural and public organization. During his presidency, he opposed the closure of the Luditsk school in Krostwitz, led negotiations to finance the Lusatian community, and fought for the preservation of the cultural Lusatian environment in Saxony. In 2009, at the regular elections of the chairman of Domoviny, he refused to run for this post, but due to the lack of candidates, he agreed to extend his authority until 2011, on the condition that this post would be paid. He held the position of chairman of Domoviny until March 26, 2011, when David Statnik became his successor.
