Jalal Bay Zogu

Prince Jalal Bey Zogu ( May 14, 1881 , Burgayet Castle, Albania - February 26, 1944 , Istanbul , Turkey ) is the only son of Jemal Pasha Zogu (1860-1911) from his first marriage with Melek Zogu (1860-1884). The half brother of the first king of Albania, Ahmed Zogu .

Biography

As the eldest brother in the Zogu family, Jalal Bey was supposed to take over the leadership after the death of his father and inherit the hereditary position of the governor of the Mati region, but, for unknown reasons, he did not succeed his father.

Jalal Bey Zogu became a good lawyer . He was educated at Darusafaka University in Istanbul , then worked as a public prosecutor . His name appears as the chief judge during the trial against Haji Jamili and other leaders of the peasant uprising in Albania in June 1915 , organized by the Serbian army.

They were thrice elected to the Albanian parliament. Once represented the Diber region, and twice from the Kosovo constituency.

On September 1, 1928 , when his stepbrother, President Ahmed Zogu, proclaimed himself the first king of Albania, Jalal Bey Zogu received the title of Prince . He later retired from politics.

In 1939, at the beginning of the Italian invasion of Albania, Prince Jalal Bey Zogu and his family fled the country, settled in Istanbul , and died in February 1944 .

Family and Children

He was married four times. In April 1908, Hanum Doshishti married Ruhija with his first marriage (March 9, 1881, Burgayet - December 6, 1956, Cannes), daughter of Salih Bey Doshishte. In 1912, the couple divorced. Children from their first marriage:

  • son Said Zogu (born 1909, Burgayet), died in childhood
  • daughter Malika (Melek) (born 1911, Burgayet), died in childhood

On August 2, 1931, he remarried to Igbal Khanum (d. May 3, 1932), the daughter of Izzat Bey Pekkinli. Children from the second marriage:

  • daughter of Elvira (born May 3, 1932 , Burrell ), husband from 1955 Ibrahim Hadidi (born October 9, 1934)

On August 2, 1932, he married Fayke Khanum for the third time (1897 - December 9, 1935), whom he divorced on February 9, 1933 . Children from the third marriage:

  • son Skender Zogu (June 3, 1933, Davos , Switzerland )

In May 1934, 1934, Khuriget Khanum (1916–17 October 1993), the daughter of Emin Bey Aladzhi, Governor of Elbasan, became his fourth wife. Children from the fourth marriage:

  • son Mirgin Zogu (born September 3, 1937, Durazzo )
  • son Genk Zogu (November 3, 1938, Tirana - April 17, 1944, Istanbul )
  • daughter Malita (born June 18, 1934, Burrell ), husband since 1958 Abdul Aziz Khadr (born October 20, 1927)
  • daughter Vera (born February 3, 1936, Durazzo ), 1st husband since 1955, Ahmad Essavi Khadr (born January 12, 1936), divorce in 1961, 2nd husband since 1970 Nasser El-Guesiri (d. 2000 )
