James Lawrence Brooks ( born James Lawrence Brooks ; born May 9, 1940 ) is an American film director, screenwriter, and producer. In Russia, he is best known as the producer of the animated series The Simpsons , although his other television projects are very popular in the USA. The biggest directorial success - the film " Language of Tenderness ", which received 5 Oscars in 1984 - is one of six directors in the history of cinema who received this award for their debut film.

Biography
James Lawrence Brooks was born into a Jewish family in Brooklyn ( New York ), grew up in North Bergen ( New Jersey ). He began his television career on the CBS channel, where from 1964 to 1966 he worked as a screenwriter. Then he switched to the ABC channel, where he worked on the television series “Room 222”. After that, he was noticed and in the following years, with his participation, such famous TV shows in the USA as the Mary Tyler Moore Show (the program was a huge commercial success), Roda, Taxi and many others were created.
In 1978, Brooks came to the big movie, his first job was as a screenwriter and co-producer in the movie " Start Again ".
In 1984, he founded his own television company, “Gracie Films”, at the head of which he was engaged in producing such famous films as “ Jerry Maguire ”, “ Big ”, “ It Can't Be Better ”. One of the largest and most famous projects is the animated series The Simpsons , which has gained immense popularity around the world.
