Description

Small-sized ants in black (4-6 mm; uterus up to 8 mm). The length of the head of small workers (HL) 1.15-1.36 mm, the width of the head (HW) 1.09-1.39 mm. The length of the head of large workers (HL) 1.61-1.85 mm, the width of the head (HW) 1.52-1.73 mm. The eyes are located in the posterolateral corners of the head at the end of the antennal cavity. Scapus and antennae are short. The stalk between the breast and the abdomen consists of two nodular segments ( petiol and postpetiol). Chest and stalk with short denticles. The abdomen is brilliant. The view demonstrates a new type of social parasitism, workers raise the abdomen almost vertically with the release of protective pheromones, as well as the nearby Crematogaster ampla Forel (Myrmicinae: Crematogastrini) species, on the tracks of which they move freely. The taxon Cephalotes specularis was first described in 2014 by American worldmecologists Carlos Roberto F. Brando ( Brandao, Carlos RF ) and Rodrigo M. Feitosa ( Feitosa, Rodrigo M. ) et al. It is similar to the species group fiebrigi species group [1] .
