Description
Small sized ants are brown in color (body length about 3 mm). The length of the workers' head (HL) is 0.57-0.69 mm, the width of the head (HW) is 0.57-0.68 mm. They are distinguished by their small size, body sculpting, propedeal spines directed backwards, and a small number of long hairs (about 6) on the dorsum postpetiolar. The stalk between the breast and the abdomen consists of two knot-like segments ( petiol and postpetiol). The species was first described in 1957 by the Brazilian entomologist and priest Thomas Borgmeier ( Thomas Borgmeier , 1892-1975; Brazil ), and its validity was confirmed in 2008 by American myrmecologists Roberto F. Brandao ( Brandao, Carlos RF ) and Rodrigo M. Feitoza ( Feitosa, Rodrigo M. ) during the revision of the genus. The species name is given in honor of the Lithuanian entomologist Fritz Plauman ( Fritz Plaumann , 1902–1994), who collected a typical series of ants and one of the largest insect collectors in Latin America [1] .
