Biography

Born in the family of lieutenant of artillery Mikhail Markovich Muravyov.

In 1774 he was enrolled in the Naval Cadet Corps . After production to the rank of midshipman on March 16, 1778, he made several training companies, and after passing the examinations by the Highest Decree, he was made on May 1, 1781 to the rank of midshipman .

In 1781-1782 he sailed to Livorno and back, and then made several maritime companies in the Baltic Sea.

On May 9, 1785, he was promoted to lieutenant , and in 1787 he was assigned to the Naval Cadet Corps with the rank of lieutenant .

During the Russian-Swedish war, the frigate "Bryachislav" participated in the Hogland battle , in the 100-gun ship "Rostislav" participated in the Eland battle and in the 100-gun ship "Twelve Apostles" - in the Krasnogorsk and Vyborg battles . For the difference July 6, 1790 was promoted to the rank of lieutenant commander .

In 1792-1795, commanding the 38-gun frigate “Pavel” as part of the rowing squadron, was on practical voyages in the Gulf of Finland and Riga and the Finnish skerries.

On March 12, 1798, he was promoted to the rank of captain of the 2nd rank, and in the same year he was granted the Order of St. Anne of the Third Degree on a sword .

In 1799-1800, he was a squadron-major under Emperor Paul I and commanded the flagship 40-gun frigate "Emmanuel". For distinction in service, he was promoted to the rank of captain 1st rank on December 8, 1799, and on July 18, 1800, was granted the Order of St. John of the Knights of Jerusalem .

November 26, 1802 "for the immaculate service of eighteen six-month maritime campaigns" was awarded the Order of St. George IV degree .

In 1803 he was appointed chief of the fleet mastermaster with production on February 16, 1804 to the rank of captain-commander .

On January 8, 1809, he was promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral and the following year was appointed Director of the Audit Department of the Ministry of the Navy.

During World War II he commanded a squadron of light and rowing vessels on the Baltic Sea.

On August 30, 1814, he was promoted to vice-admiral , and in 1819, for the assiduous management of the department in charge, he was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir, II degree .

Family

In 1798, Matvey Mikhailovich married the daughter of Major-General Anna Izotovna Pushkina (1777–1835), receiving Zatulenye’s estate as a dowry. Sons were born in marriage:

• Nikolay - collegiate adviser;

• Paul (June 26, 1804 - August 30, 1848) - State Counsel; as a midshipman, he participated in round-the-world cruise on the cruiser "Cruiser" in 1822-25. In 1854, the crew of the frigate "Pallas" named after his cape Muravyov Cape (now Kalmagak ) on the east coast of the Korean peninsula [1] .

• Peter (July 12, 1805 - October 10, 1857) - State Councilor, Chairman of the Nizhny Novgorod State Chamber.

• Matthew (b. July 10, 1813), captain.
