History

The United States established diplomatic relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1992 after gaining independence from Yugoslavia . After disconnecting from Yugoslavia, Bosnia and Herzegovina began an internal conflict between Muslims, Croats and Serbs . This war lasted from 1992 to 1995 and ended with the signing of the Dayton Agreement with the decisive participation of the United States, which made diplomatic and military efforts to end the bloodshed in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The headquarters of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) was located in Sarajevo , and the United States also donated hundreds of millions of dollars in humanitarian aid to Bosnia and Herzegovina. The United States supports the aspirations of Bosnia and Herzegovina for full integration into Euro-Atlantic institutions (NATO and the European Union ).

Trade

More than 40 US companies have representative offices in this country. Bosnia and Herzegovina is a beneficiary country under the Universal System of Preferences (GSP), according to which it is entitled to the duty-free import of its goods to the United States.
