Born in 1956 in Bacau . In 1980, she performed at a distance of 800 m at the Olympic Games in Moscow , and managed to reach the semifinals. In 1981 she became the champion of the Universiade. In 1984, she won the gold (at a distance of 800 m) and silver (at a distance of 1500 m) medals of the Los Angeles Olympic Games , as well as a silver medal (at a distance of 800 m) of the European Indoor Championship. In 1985, she won the gold medal (at a distance of 1,500 m) of the European Indoor Championship. In 1986, she became a bronze medalist at the European Championships at a distance of 1,500 m. In 1987, at a distance of 1,500 m, she won the bronze medal of the World Championship and the gold medal of the indoor world championship. In 1988, she took part in the Olympic Games in Seoul , where she became the 9th at a distance of 1,500 meters, and won a gold medal at the European Championships in the building. In 1989, at a distance of 1,500 m she became the indoor world champion, and in 1990 - the European indoor champion. In 1992, at a distance of 1,500 m, she won the bronze medal of the European Indoor Championships, but at the Olympic Games in Barcelona she could not achieve awards.
