GIS Day

GIS Day is the international day of geographic information systems ( November 14, 2007, November 19, 2008 , November 18, 2009 , November 17, 2010 , November 16, 2011 , November 14, 2012 , November 20, 2013 , November 19, 2014 , 18 November 2015 , November 16, 2016 ). In more than 80 countries, developers and users of GIS technologies conduct public events that day: demonstrate the opportunities offered by geographic information systems, conduct open lessons, organize seminars and presentations on GIS. The purpose of the events is to disseminate modern geographic knowledge and increase awareness of GIS technologies among lay people.

GIS Day has been celebrated since 1999 every year on Wednesday, the third week of November [1] (a mandatory day off for geoinformatics), during the Geography Awareness Week, the Geographic Knowledge Week held by the National Geographic Society .
