Endemic to Bosnia and Herzegovina [1] [2] . Phoxinellus pseudalepidotus and Telestes dabar are the only fish species and generally the only vertebrates endemic to this country [3] . It lives in the Neretva river basin , in shallow slow channels with clean water [1] .
Freshwater bentopelagic fish. The length is usually in the range of 5–5.2 cm, in individual specimens it reaches 10.3 cm. The midline of the body from the eyes to the tail (including the back and sides) is painted in a dark shade. Most of the body, excluding some parts in the areas of the sides and head, is covered with scales. Vertebrae 38-40. Muzzle rounded, mouth with 4-5 pharyngeal teeth [1] .
The species is considered “vulnerable” according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature . It is not considered rare, but its distribution is very limited. It is assumed that the organization of the reserve in the areas of fish distribution can reduce the risk of its extinction [2] .
