Kuraev, Eduard Alekseevich

Born in Apsheronsk , Krasnodar Territory . In 1957 he graduated from high school in the village of Tbilisskaya , Krasnodar Territory and entered the Physics and Mathematics Department of the University. A.M. Gorky in Kharkov , Ukraine . After completing his studies at the university in 1962, he was sent to work in the theoretical department of the Kharkov Institute of Physics and Technology , where he worked as a trainee researcher, junior researcher and researcher until 1971 .

From 1971 to 1991 he worked as a senior and leading researcher in the Department of Theoretical Physics at the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Academy of Sciences , Novosibirsk .

From 1991 to 2014, he worked at the Laboratory of Theoretical Physics of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research , Dubna , as a leading and chief research fellow.

In 1971 he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic "Inelastic processes of quantum electrodynamics at high energies." In 1985, he received a diploma from a senior research fellow, and in 2005 - the title of professor .

Kuraev E.A. was a well-known specialist in the field of quantum field theory and elementary particle physics. The author of more than 250 scientific papers, including 2 monographs.

The main scientific results obtained by E. A. Kuraev:

• Differential and total cross sections of the processes of quantum electrodynamics calculated on electron-positron, electron-proton, electron-photon and photon-photon counter beams ( colliders ) are calculated.
• The system of equations of the renormalization group for operators in quantum electrodynamics is obtained, on the basis of which the method of structural functions is constructed to calculate the radiation corrections to the cross sections of various processes with the accuracy shown by modern experiments. The method is applied to a number of processes studied at colliders.
• In the framework of quantum chromodynamics for processes in peripheral kinematics, the validity of the description in terms of Regge gluon trajectories is proved. The equation for the amplitude of the inelastic interaction of hadrons at high energies is derived - the BFKL equation ( Balitsky – Fadin – Kuraev – Lipatov ).
• A system of equations of evolution of the twist operators 2 and 3 is constructed in the framework of various field theories - scalar and vector electrodynamics, quantum chromodynamics. A procedure has been developed for constructing equations of evolution of operators of an arbitrary twist.
• A number of precision calculations of the cross sections of the processes and the width of the decay of particles were carried out in the framework of the Standard Model of Electroweak Interactions .

E. A. Kuraev was the co-director of the topic “Standard Model and Its Extensions” at the JINR Laboratory of Theoretical Physics. He was known as a specialist in calculating radiation corrections within the Standard Model. He participated in expert groups on the formation of the scientific program of such physical facilities as Panda ( DESY , Germany ), BES III ( Beijing , China ), CMD2 ( Novosibirsk , Russia ).

E. A. Kuraev conducted intensive pedagogical activity for 30 years - he gave lectures on theoretical physics at the Moscow Institute of Radio Electronics and Automation (MIREA) and Kuban State University , was the head of 8 graduate students, he prepared several textbooks for students and post-graduate students on statistical and mathematical physics , the Standard Model , string theory , low-energy meson physics. He also actively participated in various schools for graduate students and young scientists: he regularly gave presentations and lectures at the PNPI winter schools ( St. Petersburg ), Baikal schools for young scientists in fundamental physics ( Irkutsk ), and schools on topical problems of microworld physics ( Gomel , Belarus ), other scientific conferences and seminars in Russia and abroad.

E. A. Kuraev participated in the organizational activities of JINR, made presentations at the JINR Scientific Council, was the head of the weekly scientific seminar on hadron physics at the JINR Laboratory of Theoretical Physics.

E. A. Kuraev is a laureate of the prize of the publishing house MAIK “ Science / Interperiodica” for a series of articles “Photo-formation processes and meson decays. Description within the framework of the and the Standard Model for 2009.
