Agent "Werther" ( German: Werther ) - the code name of the alleged Soviet agent in the leadership of the Wehrmacht or even as part of the top of the Third Reich during the Second World War , one of the prototypes of Stirlitz . He transmitted top-secret information about Hitler's plans (in particular, regarding the Battle of Kursk ) directly from the High Command of the Wehrmacht . Given the possibility of access to the most valuable information, it is believed that he could be in Hitler’s closest circle [1] .
Content
Werther's work
The information messages transmitted by Werther include:
- information about the strategic plan of the German command for the summer of 1942;
- analysis of the reasons for the delay in the German offensive on the Eastern Front;
- a number of reports on the plans of the German command regarding the conduct of chemical warfare, on new German toxic substances and methods of their use, on experiments on the use of intra-atomic energy of uranium for the production of atomic bombs;
- plans and intentions of the military-political leadership of Germany and the command of its armed forces, army reserves, troop transfer across Europe and the Eastern Front, Germany’s ability to produce tanks, aircraft, artillery, information about the possibilities of Germany starting a chemical war against the Soviet Union.
According to the assumption of Sandor Rado , Werther in Berlin used the radio transmitter of a state institution, in which he held a high command post. According to Rado, communication technology was handled by specialists of the highest class, and for this reason, not a single misfire has occurred all the time.
Hitler’s personal translator, Paul Karel, wrote in his book about him: “The leaders of Soviet intelligence contacted the Swiss residency as if they were requesting information from some information desk. And they got everything they were interested in. Even a superficial analysis of radio interception data shows that at all phases of the war in Russia, agents of the Soviet General Staff worked first-class. Part of the information transmitted could be obtained only from the highest German military circles - it seems that Soviet agents in Geneva and Lausanne were dictated by the key directly from the Führer Headquarters ” [2] .
