The Burshtyn energy island (or simply Burshtyn island ) is a separate part of the UES of Ukraine, formed by the Burshtyn TPP , Kalush TPP and Tereblya-Rikskaya HPP and adjacent electric networks [1] , which is much more integrated into the UCTE European energy system than actually in the Ukrainian ECO.
History
The development of the program for the integration of the southwestern part of the ECO of Ukraine into the integration of energy systems of the EU countries UCTE began in 1995. Since July 1, 2002, the "island" has joined in parallel work with the UCTE energy association .
The island’s generating capacities include: Burshtinskaya Thermal Power Plant (Ivano-Frankivsk Region), Kalush Thermal Power Station (Ivano-Frankivsk Region) and Tereblya-Rikskaya Hydroelectric Power Station (Transcarpathian Region), the total generation of which is estimated at 1950 MW. The island's power grid is located within the borders of Transcarpathian and partially Ivano-Frankivsk and Lviv regions. Ostrov covers an area of 27 thousand km² with a population of about 3 million people.
The “island” is connected with UCTE countries, as well as with Romania at 220, 400 and 750 kV. [2]
