“The Love of Richard Nixon” is a song by the Welsh rock band Manic Street Preachers , the first single from their seventh studio album Lifeblood . The musicians described the single with the words: "this is the soundtrack of disappointment, hatred, love, struggle and hope." In more detail - the composition is an assessment of the activities of former US President Richard Nixon (conveyed by musicians in an ironic form), it touches on some of his positive achievements, which were ultimately erased by the Watergate scandal . The single's release date, two weeks before George W. Bush’s victory in the 2004 presidential election , can be seen as the group’s position regarding the reputation of the US leadership in that period.

In an interview with Repeat Fanzine magazine, the group said the song represents the difference in their worldview with Radiohead . In particular, Nicky Wyre noted that they feel “a kind of Richard Nixons,” while “Radiohead is Kennedy’s charm [1] ”: “they smile like that, go to the“ learned bravado, ”“ then Manic Street appears Preachers - freak Nixon: ugly ducklings who had to work ten times more than anyone else. Paranoid megalomaniacs ” [1] .
The song reached the second line in the British chart , its sound is more electronic than most of the previous hits of the band, which was associated with the experiments of the musicians on the album Lifeblood . According to the musicians, no guitars were used to record this track.
