The only species is endemic to Tanzania [4] , common in the northeast of the country [5] [6] . The type specimen material is collected in the Muheza district [7] . It is found in lowland coastal forests [8] .
Trees or shrubs [8] up to 8 m high. Inflorescence is a nimbus. An elongated seed, 1.3-1.4 cm long [6] .
Sanrafaelia ruffonammari is a poorly studied species, its isolation into a separate genus is associated with a noticeable difference in the structure of the seed. Relations with other genera have not yet been established [6] .
Although in some areas of its growth the plant can be quite common, according to the data of the International Union for Conservation of Nature S. ruffonammari, it is considered an endangered species (“endangered”). Fears are associated with habitat loss and agricultural development (a cocoa plantation is being developed at one of the sites) [8] .
