The diocese in Koria existed during the Visigoth kingdom , but was destroyed in 711 during the Arab conquest of Spain . Soon after the conquest of the region during the Reconquista in 1143 was recreated. In 1957 it was renamed the Diocese of Koria-Cáceres [1] .
The diocese is a suffragan diocese for the Metropolitan of Merida Badajoz . Since 2007, the diocese has been led by Bishop Francisco Serra Chavez . The modern Latin name of the diocese comes from the ancient names of Coria and Cáceres.
