Biography
The son of a television actor, Russell in his childhood starred in many Disney films. He has been on television since the age of 6. At the age of 11, he starred in the movie Our Man Higgins , after which Disney Studios signed a contract with him for 10 years. Despite this, his true dream was to become a baseball player. In the early 1970s, he took up baseball on a professional basis, but an injury forced him to return to acting. The first major success was the role of Elvis Presley in John Carpenter's biographical film " Elvis " (1979). Ironically, in his very first film, “ It Happened at the World's Fair, ” Russell had to portray a brawl with a real Elvis (or rather, at the request of Elvis, kick him in the foot so that there would be a reason to visit the medical center to meet again with a pretty nurse). In 1981, Kurt Russell again starred with Carpenter - this time in the anti-utopian action movie Escape from New York. The film was a tremendous success and, along with another low-budget post-apocalyptic action movie Mad Mad, soon gained cult status. This was followed by another collaboration between Carpenter and Russell - the fantastic horror movie “The Thing” of 1982 based on John Campbell's story “Who's There?”. In 1983, the film was released with Meryl Streep starring Silkwood, for whose participation Russell was nominated for Golden Globe as Best Supporting Role. In the same year, on the set of the melodrama "Relocation", the actor again met with Goldie Hawn .
Another collaboration between John Carpenter and Kurt Russell turned out to be financially disastrous, but just like “Escape from New York”, it became a cult picture, and the role of the militant hero . In the second half of the 1980s, after several not-so-successful projects, Russell played in the comedy sports drama “The Best of Times”, the romantic comedy “Overboard”, where his partner was again Goldie Hawn, the crime drama The Mean Season, the comedy action movie Tango & Cash, the melodrama Winter People, the action movie Drunk Dawn ( "Tequila Sunrise"). By the beginning of the new decade, the career of an actor began to gain momentum. The 1991 painting “Backdraft”, during the preparation for which Russell in the Chicago fire brigade knew all the wisdom of the fireman’s profession and even took part in fighting fires, opened a new stage in the work of the actor, in which the thriller was created Unlawful Entry, the historic western Tombstone: The Legend of the Wild West (Tombstone), the fantastic adventure film Stargate and the action movie Ordered Decreased (Executive Decision) who confirmed Russell's stellar reputation by bringing e him world fame and corrected financial position - since the mid-90s, his fees are calculated in amounts with six zeros. In 1996, Kurt Russell starred in the criticisms of self-reprisals and the audience continued to coolly meet the story of Pliesken's “Snake” “Escape from LA”, the script for which he wrote himself, and he put on everything same Carpenter. After this setback, Russell engages in more or less successful films: the thriller Breakdown, the fantastic action movie Soldier, the detective 3000 Miles to Graceland. , the mystical drama "Route 60" ("Interstate 60") and the fantastic thriller "Vanilla Sky" ("Vanilla Sky"). In the 2000s, Kurt Russell did not appear on the screens so often, preferring to spend more time with his relatives - first on his secluded ranch in Colorado, and since 2003 in Vancouver, where Russell and Hawn moved to be closer to their son, Junior Hockey League player. Now almost every film work of the actor becomes an event: “Miracle”, “Aerobatics” (“Sky High”), “Dreamer”, (“Dreamer: Inspired by a True Story”). And the role of stuntman Mike in Quentin Tarantino's crime thriller "Death Proof" again made us talk about Russell as an actor who, despite his age, is ideal for filming in action films.
Despite some successes in the genre of comedy (“ Overboard ”) and melodrama (“ Silkwood ”, “ Route 60 ”), Russell is steadily associated with the majority of viewers with action films (such as “ Big Trouble in Little China ”, “ Escape from New York "," Tango and Cash ") and science fiction (" Something "," Stargate ").
On May 4, 2017, Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn became the owners of two stars at once on the Hollywood Walk of Fame [4] . To support the actors that day came their children - Kate Hudson and Boston Russell, as well as close friends - actress Reese Witherspoon and director Quentin Tarantino [5] .
Personal life
In 1979, Russell married actress Sison Hubley, and February 16, 1980 they had a son, Boston. In 1983, they divorced, and Russell began to live with actress Goldie Hawn , whom he first met on the set at the age of 16. July 10, 1986 they had a son, Wyatt . Hawn's children from a previous marriage with singer Bill Hudson, Oliver and Kate , recognized Russell as their true father. Russell and Hawn live on a secluded ranch near Aspen .
With respect to his political views in 1996, Russell stated [6] :
“I was brought up as a republican . But when I realized that ultimately there wasn’t much difference between a Democrat and a Republican, I became a libertarian . ”
