History

The site was opened on November 29, 2012 by a team of former editors of the Absolute Games website , who left the project in full force. The first few days it was called "AG20.ru" and was located at the same address. On December 9, the site was renamed Riot Pixels. The news about the departure of the team was published on the Absolute Games website , but was later deleted by the new owners as a publication that cannot be considered news [2] .

On January 30, 2013, quotes from Riot Pixels reviews translated into English began to be published on the Metacritic aggregator site [3] .

Currently working on the site:

  • Andrey Shevchenko ( Zombiek - project manager),
  • Mikhail Kalinchenkov ( Redguard - Editor-in-Chief),
  • Vladimir Goryachev (Nomad - editor-in-chief),
  • Dmitry Boyarshinov (Baraban - Leading Programmer),
  • Konstantin Fomin (Bobik - reviewer and newsreader),
  • Philip Volnov (Fazar - news and community manager)
  • other.

May 17, 2013 the alpha version of the new "engine" of the site was launched. It is available in three languages - Russian, English and Spanish. German and Japanese versions are also planned. At the end of 2014, the number of supported languages reached 22.

Riot Pixels are known for their “meditative” approach to new games: sometimes a review appears a few months after the release. As the editor-in-chief Mikhail Kalinchenkov noted, “We are few - there are many games” [4] . In 2017, the editorial staff announced chronic financial problems that prevent the project from developing normally [5] .
