In addition, as of 2014, 5 sites in the state are among the candidates for inclusion in the World Heritage List [1] , including 3 by natural and 2 by mixed criteria.
Nicaragua ratified the Convention for the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage on December 17, 1979 [2] . The first site in Nicaragua was listed in 2000 at the 24th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee .
