History
The line connecting Radviliškis with the station Griva (at that time - Kalkuny) of the St. Petersburg-Warsaw Railway was built by the Libavo-Romny Railway Society. The line was opened on November 1, 1873 [1] . From the end of World War I until 1941, the line was operated with a European gauge . During the Second World War, the Sventenvalde and Selone siding, which did not exist for long, were equipped on the line [2] . In Soviet times, the line was changed to a 1524 mm gauge and passenger trains Daugavpils - Šiauliai and Moscow - Kaliningrad ran along it [3] . The Daugavpils - Šiauliai route existed until 1998. Nowadays (2014) passenger communication via the line in the territory of Latvia is not carried out.
Griva Station, formerly the terminal station of the line, now does not belong to it, but has a direct connection to it via a 5 km railway post .
