History

The circumstances of the emergence of the diocese are set forth in the “Monument to the ongoing affairs of the Belokrinitsky Monastery, ” which says: “Since our high government, in respect of the Russian Imperial Court and others with all envy, has taken away Metropolitan Ambrose from us,” his deputy, Bishop Kiril ( Timofeev) , “convened his entire spiritual council, on which on August 26 of this month [1848], with many witnesses from secular societies, with a unanimous voice from the whole council” they elected the holy monk of the Belokrinitsky monastery Onufry (Ivanov) to us he was a priest of the Belokrinitsky throne, as a worthy episcopal dignity, "as a precaution, so as not to bring the local Old Believers to their former misery of the priesthood" [1] .

August 29 (Art.) 1848 "Bishop Cyril of the Council and with the proper rank made the above-mentioned holy priest Onufri Ivanov the bishop, identifying him with the diocese in Muntia Ibrailov with other faithful local communities, but he is here under the Metropolitanate governor . "

From 1874 to 1926, the diocese was temporarily under the jurisdiction of the Belokrinitsky Metropolitan.

In 1942 it was united with the Vaslui Diocese [2] .

The governors of the Brazilian diocese have historically been the main assistants to the metropolitans of Belokrinitsky, acting as manager of affairs. Due to the residence of the Belokrinitsky Metropolitans in the cathedral city of the Braillian Diocese - Braille, the jurisdictional powers between the two bishops are divided by a special agreement.
