Energy ring of St. Petersburg

The energy ring of St. Petersburg is the ring power supply network of St. Petersburg .

Outdoor switchgear 110 kV substation "East"

It consists of seven substations ( Vasileostrovskaya , Vostochnaya , Volkhov-Severnaya , Zavod Ilyich, Severnaya, Parnas and Zapadnaya) and 95 km of 330 kilovolt power lines upgraded by 2013.

The ring was put into operation on November 22, 2013 [1] . The fifth substation - “Vasileostrovskaya” - was included in the network on November 29, 2014 [2] .

It is an investment project of FGC UES . Investments in the construction of the energy ring amounted to 32.3 billion rubles.

The western part of the ring 4 km long was laid along the bottom of the Gulf of Finland [3] .

The acceleration of the project was greatly affected by the large-scale accident at Vostochnaya station in 2010 , as a result of which 2.5 million people were left without electricity, many trains of the Oktyabrskaya Railway and trains of the St. Petersburg metro stopped [1] .

In addition to this inner ring, in 2015, FGC UES plans to build a second, external one, which will completely pass outside the city .

The construction of the ring significantly increases the reliability of energy networks and power facilities [4] .

In December 2017, the modernization of the Zapadnaya substation, built in 1986, was completed [5] .

In December 2018, the reconstruction of the Zavod Ilyich substation, which has been ongoing since 2008, was completed. Its capacity increased to 1220 MVA [6] [7] .

In April 2019, the capacity of the Vostochnaya substation was increased to 1850 MVA [8] .
