Physical-geographical zoning of Ukraine - accepted physical-geographical zoning , based on the division of the country according to geological, geomorphological, hydrological, soil and biogeographic criteria. Administrative and state borders are not taken into account in such regionalization.
Ukrainian Carpathians are located in the Transcarpathian region and a significant part of the Ivano-Frankivsk , Lviv and Chernivtsi regions. The zone of mixed forests occupies most of Volyn , Rivne, Zhytomyr and Chernihiv, as well as part of the districts of Lviv, Khmelnitsky, Kiev and Sumy regions. The forest-steppe occupies the Ternopil, Khmelnitsky, Vinnitsa, Poltava, Cherkasy and Kharkov regions, the southern half of Lviv, Volyn, Rivne, Zhytomyr, Kiev and Chernigov, most of Sumy, and the northern part of Odessa and Kirovograd regions, partially Ivano-Frankivsk and Chernivtsi. The steppe zone covers Odessa, Nikolaev, Kherson, Dnepropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhya, Donetsk , Lugansk , southern regions of the Kirovograd and Kharkov regions and the flat part of the Crimean peninsula .
