Rogov, Alexander Semenovich

Biography

Born into a peasant family. In service in the Russian Imperial Army since December 1915, volunteer, private of the 8th Volmar Latvian infantry battalion. Member of the First World War.

Member of the Civil War . In the Red Army since December 1919 . He served in the 2nd Infantry Division, fought in 1920 in the Kuban , in 1921 in Dagestan , in 1921 in the Urals , and in 1922 he participated in the suppression of the Karelian rebellion . Member of the CPSU (b) since 1920 .

In 1924 he graduated from the reconnaissance department of the Petrograd courses of the middle command staff of the Petrograd military district, in 1926 - tactical-shooting courses of improvement of the commanding staff.

He commanded a company, a battalion, was an assistant commander of the 33rd, and later - 32nd rifle regiments (August 1924 - November 1930 ).

He graduated from the Oriental Department of the Military Academy of the Red Army named after M.V. Frunze ( 1932 - 1936 ).

In military intelligence, he held the following posts:

- Deputy Chief of the 5th (intelligence) department of the headquarters of the Leningrad Military District (November 1930 - April 1932 );

- Head of the mobilization department for the training of intelligence personnel of the 5th department (for the management of intelligence departments of the headquarters of districts and fleets) of the Intelligence Directorate of the Red Army ( 1936 - January 1937 );

- Resident Intelligence Agency in Harbin (January 1937 - April 1940 ) under the guise of the post of vice-consul of the USSR in Harbin;

- Head of the 3rd (eastern) department of the Reconnaissance General Staff of the Red Army (September 1940 - June 1941 );

- Head of the 4th (military-technical) department of the General Intelligence Reconnaissance (June 1941);

- Head of the Intelligence Department of the headquarters of the 2nd Shock Army, Volkhov Front ( 1942 );

- Head of the Intelligence Division of the headquarters of the South-Western (from October 1943 - 3rd Ukrainian ) Front (October 1942 - June 1945 );

Since the war, he was friends with the future Minister of Defense of the USSR Rodion Malinovsky , with whom he fought. This circumstance had a significant impact on Rogov’s post-war career [1] .

After the war, from September 1945, A. S. Rogov was the chief of staff of the headquarters of the Southern Group of Forces in Romania and Bulgaria, and from December 1947, he was deputy chief of staff and chief of the staff of the Separate Mechanized Army. Since July 1949, the chief of the RU of the headquarters of the commander of the troops of the Far East. Since August 1950, the deputy chief, since May 1953, the assistant chief of the GRU of the General Staff. In November 1953 - April 1958, the military attache at the Embassy of the USSR in Great Britain. Since April 1958, First Deputy Head of the Main Intelligence Directorate.

In January - March 1963 - Acting Chief of the GRU General Staff. By a decree of the Council of Ministers of the USSR of March 7, 1963, he was removed from his post and demoted to major general in connection with the " Penkovsky case." It was Rogov, bypassing the head of the GRU, Ivan Serov, who accepted Penkovsky to serve in the GRU [2] .

He was buried at the Troekurovsky cemetery . [3]
