Born in 1883 in Ludwigshafen . In 1911, he won first place in the unofficial world championship. In 1912, he took 2nd place in the unofficial European Championship, and at the Olympic Games in Stockholm he became 4th. In 1913 he became the silver medalist of the World Cup.

After the First World War in 1920, he took 2nd place in the German Championship.
