Herr, William Albert

Albert William Herr was born on September 16, 1868 in Toledo , his childhood passed in Illinois . Herra's father died in a boat accident, after which his mother got married. Herra's stepfather supported his interest in science, but also died before Albert graduated from high school. In 1888-1890, Albert was forced to work as an assistant in the school administration, after 1893 he taught history at the school for some time. In 1891, Herr married Clara Mendoza.

In 1900, the family moved to Palo Alto . Albert William entered Stanford University , in 1903 received a bachelor's degree in botany, and in 1905 graduated from the magistracy with a degree in ichthyologist. Soon, his wife Klara suddenly died of pneumonia, leaving five children. In 1907, Herr married Lizzy Bailey. Continuing the study of biology, in 1908 Albert Herr received a Ph.D.

In 1909-1910, Herr was a professor at the University of Nevada . In 1910-1912 he worked as the deputy director of the school in Auckland , until 1915 he taught at the school in Washington . Over the next four years, he headed the Department of Natural Sciences at West Washington College of Education.

In 1919, Herr was appointed head of the fishing industry at the Philippine Bureau of Natural Sciences in Manila . For ten years, Herr described many new fish species in the Philippine Journal of Science . In 1929, he visited Vanuatu , New Guinea , Sulawesi .

From 1928 to 1946, Herr was the curator of the zoological department of the Stanford Museum of Natural Sciences. In 1933, he again went on an expedition to Asia, visited many regions of Malaysia and China . In 1947-1948, Herr, on the instructions of the US Fish and Wildlife Service, Albert William again traveled to the Philippines.

In 1958, Herr moved to Santa Cruz , shortly after moving his wife passed away. In 1959, the 90-year-old Herr received a grant from the National Science Foundation to study various US herbariums for 6 months. By 1960, Herr had almost completed the monograph of the Usnei clan at the global level.

Albert William Christian Theodore Herr passed away at the age of 93 on January 16, 1962 .
