Biography
Ernst Stienberger was born in Constance on June 14 (or June 13 ) in 1827 into the family of a doctor. In 1844 he entered the University of Freiburg , where he attended lectures on botany by Professor Alexander Brown . Subsequently, he also studied at the University of Zurich , for some time he attended lectures at Prague and Vienna Universities . In 1850 he passed the state exam, which gives the right to practice healing. In 1851 in Freiburg he received the degree of doctor of medicine.
Since 1851, Stiutsenberger worked as a doctor in his hometown of Constanta. In 1852, he became an inspector of pharmacies in Baden . In his spare time, he studied cryptogamic flora and music.
Stienberger was a friend of Ludwig Rabenhorst , a famous mycologist. In 1852, Ernst married, he had two children - a son and a daughter.
He died on September 27, 1895 .
At present, the Stitzenberger herbarium is stored at the Zurich Higher Technical School (ZT).
