Rautahat ( Nepali. रौतहट जिल्ला ) is one of the 75 districts of Nepal . It is part of the Narayani zone, which, in turn, is part of the Central region of the country. The administrative center is the city of Gaur.

It borders with the Bar region (in the west), Makwanpur region (in the north), the Sarlahi region of the Janakpur zone (in the east) and the Indian state of Bihar (in the south). The area is 1126 km².
The population according to the 2011 census is 686,722 people, of which 351,079 are men and 335,643 are women [1] . According to the 2001 census, the population numbered 545,132 people [2] . 77.77% of the population profess Hinduism ; 19.70% - Islam ; 1.85% - Buddhism ; 0.15% - Christianity [3] . Thus, Rautahat is the region with the highest share of Muslim population in Nepal.
