Dhanusa ( Nepali. धनुषा जिल्ला ) is one of the 75 districts of Nepal . It is part of the Janakpur zone, which, in turn, is part of the Central region of the country. The administrative center is the city of Janakpur .

It borders with the Mahottari region (in the west), the Sindhuli region (in the north), the Sirah region of the Sagarmatha zone (in the east) and the Indian state of Bihar (in the south). The area of the district is 1180 km².
According to the 2011 census, the population is 754,777 people, of which 378,538 are men and 376,239 are women [1] . According to the 2001 census, the population was 671,364 people [2] . Most of the population speaks Maithili . 89.35% of the population profess Hinduism ; 8.36% - Islam ; 1.49% - Buddhism [3] .
