History

The group was formed in 1967 in the German city of Witten . The band's early albums can be attributed to progressive rock rather than heavy metal, however, since the mid-1980s, in particular since the release of the fifth album Gold 'n' Glory in 1984 , the group worked in the style of German heavy metal . The famous German musician and singer Udo Dirkschneider , who produced the group’s albums, contributed a lot to the band’s popularity.

Gold 'n' Glory , recorded by a quartet from Heinz (vocals / guitar), Andy (guitar), Horst (bass) and Jürgen (drums) represented energetic heavy metal, with a preserved melody characteristic of German metal music of that period, choral refrains and the combat image of the band’s members - this is how the musicians performed in Viking helmets, fur capes and spikes, successfully combining this historical image with leather clothing characteristic of rock music. Three songs from the album were written by Heinz Mikus in collaboration with drummer Jürgen Dusterlog, two more were written by Horst Stabenov and Dusterlog, another was written in the duo Mikus / Wagener, and one was written by Mikus / Stabenov. The song Play The Game alone was written by bassist Stabenov.

The success of the album Gold 'n' Glory is supported by the tour of the same name, after which the group begins to compose new songs for the upcoming album.

Released a year later, Skol did not receive such popularity as its predecessor, although it contained such "hit" compositions as Start It Up and Inside Out , written in the style of the songs of the album Gold 'n' Glory . The producer of the record was Gerd Rautenbach, who previously worked with the Scorpions group, and later with the solo project of Dirkschneider UDO in 1987-1988. The album was already recorded with a changed composition - the second guitarist Andy Hoenig and bassist Horst Stabenov left the group and Tilo Hermann and Peter Dell respectively were taken in their place. In the process of composing the songs, the second guitarist Andy Hoenig participated, so he is the co-author of the song Rock Rebels with Dusterlog.

In 1986, the group was renamed Risk and lasted until 1993 , recording 5 studio and 1 mini-album. The band’s musical style has also changed dramatically - now the band played trash metal . [3]

In 1989, Steamhammer Records released a Double Thing compilation containing re-releases of the Gold 'n' Glory and Skol albums with their original song order.
