Biography

Born on April 22, 1962 in the city of Riga, Latvian SSR . Russian. In 1979 he graduated from high school. In 1983 he graduated from the Chernigov Higher Military Aviation School. He served in aviation units in the Far East , including 224 IAP p. Kremovo , then - in the 372nd fighter-bomber aviation regiment of the Baltic Military District (Lotsiki airfield, Latvian SSR ). In 1992 he graduated from the Military-Political Academy named after V.I. Lenin. Lieutenant Colonel Sarabeev Vladimir Ivanovich, deputy commander of the 368th assault aviation regiment for educational work of the 4th air army of the North Caucasian military district, participated in the first Chechen war since December 1994. Fulfilled 47 sorties . Participating in the destruction of Dudaev’s aviation, he personally destroyed 15 aircraft of types L-29 , L-39 and AN-2 , and 1 Mi-8 helicopter at airfields. Performing combat missions to support ground forces, he destroyed 1 Shilka self-propelled anti-aircraft installation, an underground concrete shelter on Minutka Square in Grozny, 3 infantry fighting vehicles , 1 armored personnel carrier , 1 mortar crew. In a combat mission on May 5, 1995, as part of a group of attack aircraft SU-25 , it searched for a disguised base of militants who stubbornly resisted the federal forces. When approaching its alleged location in the area of ​​the village of Benoy, the aircraft underwent shelling from the ground. The fighters concentrated the most intense fire on the leading group - the aircraft of the regiment commander, Colonel S.K. Borisyuk. Covering him, Lieutenant Colonel V. Sarabeev was wounded in the air by fire from a heavy machine gun (the glazing of the cockpit of his attack aircraft was not armored), and his plane was damaged. According to the Russian side, the pilot leveled the car and sent his plane to a cluster of militants and military equipment of illegal gangs. He was buried at the Slavyanskoye cemetery in Krasnodar . For courage and heroism shown in the performance of a special task, Lieutenant Colonel Sarabeev Vladimir Ivanovich, by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation No. 983 of September 29, 1995, was awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation posthumously. Remained a wife, sons Alexander and Eugene.
